Tags (adding, AI suggestions, management, tag search)
Describes monthlet 1.0.1.
Tags classify notes across folders. A note can have multiple tags.
- Add/remove: Open a note and a tag row appears just below the toolbar. Click "+", type, and press Enter to add; hover a tag and click its × to remove. While typing, existing tags are suggested by prefix. Case is ignored (TODO and todo are the same tag; the first-entered form is shown). The same tag row appears above the format toolbar in spreadsheet documents, where you add/remove tags the same way. A removed tag can be restored from the "Undo" in the toast that appears (shown for a few seconds, last removal only).
- AI suggestions: When you generate, create, or edit a note or spreadsheet from chat, the AI suggests fitting tags as a "Suggested tags: #… [Apply all]" chip above the chat input. Click a tag to apply it individually, or [Apply all] to apply them together (never applied automatically). If one turn touches several notes, the suggestions are split into a labeled chip per note. Dismiss a note's suggestions with ×. Even without creating or editing, you can ask in chat ("tag this note", "suggest tags for this") to make the suggestion chip appear. You can turn suggestions off in Settings → "AI" → "AI tag suggestions" (on by default).
- Search by tag: In search (⌘K), type "#tagname" to filter notes with that tag. Multiple include tags are AND (must contain all) by default; with two or more include tags, a "Match all (AND) / Match any (OR)" toggle in the search bar lets you switch to OR. Type "-#tagname" to exclude (NOT) notes carrying that tag. Click a confirmed tag chip to toggle include (blue) ⇄ exclude (red, -#), or × to remove it. Typing "#" suggests existing tags by prefix; pick one with ↑↓ and Enter (or click) to confirm it (Esc closes the suggestions). Tag matching is case-insensitive.
- Inline #tags: type "#tagname" in a note body or a spreadsheet cell and it becomes a dotted link in reading mode; clicking it opens the gallery filtered by that tag (case-insensitive). This is a body decoration link — it does not auto-add the tag to the tag row (meta tags).
- Sidebar tag list: pick the "Tags" icon tab just below the sidebar search bar (Recent / Pinned / Folders / Tags) to list every tag with its use count; click a tag to open the gallery filtered by it (reverse lookup). A button above the list toggles the order between use count and name.
- Manage tags: The sidebar "Tags" tab lists every tag in the vault with its document count. Click a tag name to filter the gallery by that tag. Right-click a tag for the "Rename" / "Delete" menu: "Rename" rewrites the tag across all referencing documents (notes and spreadsheets; renaming to an existing tag merges them); "Delete" removes the tag from all documents after a confirmation. Right after a rename or delete, the toast's "Undo" restores the tags of every affected document (last action only, shown for a few seconds). Click the color dot at the left of a tag row to open a palette and set its color (reflected in the tag row, gallery and the sidebar tag list).
