Gallery (browse all notes as cards)

Describes monthlet 1.0.1.

The "All notes" gallery lets you browse every note in the vault as cards with thumbnails.

  • Double-click a card to open that note (a single click selects it; ⌘/Shift-click for multi-select).
  • You can switch between a flat list and a folder-grouped view in settings.
  • In the folder-grouped view, click the ▶ on a folder section header to collapse/expand it. Collapsing a parent folder also hides the sections of its subfolders (the collapsed state is remembered).
  • In the folder-grouped view, drag a card onto another folder (section) to move it. Use ⌘ / Shift-click to select several and move them together. You can drop onto a section whether it is collapsed or expanded.
  • In the folder-grouped view, empty folders are also shown as sections, so you can move notes into an empty folder too.
  • Use the sort button at the top right of the gallery to change the order (updated date / created date / title, ascending or descending). This order is shared with the sidebar note list.
  • Filter by tag: use "Filter by tag" at the top of the gallery to show only notes with chosen tags. Clicking a tag in the dropdown cycles it through include (blue) → exclude (red, NOT) → off; chosen tags appear as chips (click a chip to toggle include ⇄ exclude, × to remove). With two or more include tags you can switch between "Match all" (AND) and "Match any" (OR). Notes carrying an excluded tag are always hidden. While filtering, even folder grouping shows a flat list of matches; press "Clear" to reset (tag matching is case-insensitive). Non-note files have no tags, so their cards are not shown while filtering.
  • Folder gallery: right-click a folder in the sidebar and choose "Show as gallery" to open only the notes in that folder (including its subfolders) in a gallery tab. The tab is named after the folder, and choosing the same folder again switches to the existing tab. Right-click the tab and choose "Pin" to have it open again on the next launch. The tab follows the folder when you rename or move it in the app; if the folder is moved outside the app (for example in Finder), the tab shows "Folder not found" and you can close it. If the folder of a pinned folder gallery is missing the next time you open the vault, the gallery is unpinned and its tab is closed. Sort order and tag filtering are shared with "All notes".
  • Change a card's image (custom thumbnail): right-click a note and choose "Thumbnail" → "Choose image…" to show that image on the note's card (cropped from the center to 3:2). Images from outside the vault are copied into the note's folder. You can also right-click an image in the note and choose "Use as thumbnail". "Thumbnail" → "Default" goes back to the image made from the note. The chosen image stays even when you edit the note.
