Dictate into chat with your voice (OS dictation)

Describes monthlet 1.0.1.

You can speak into the chat using your OS's built-in dictation. monthlet itself never records audio — the OS transcribes your speech and inserts the text into the input box.

  • How to use (macOS): place the cursor in the chat input box and press your Dictation shortcut (depending on your setup: Fn (🌐) twice, the 🎤 key, etc. — check or change it under System Settings > Keyboard > Dictation). You can also start it from the menu: Edit > Start Dictation (processed on-device on Apple Silicon).
  • How to use (Windows): place the cursor in the chat input box and press Windows key + H to start voice typing.
  • When the microphone indicator appears, start speaking. Your words land in the input box as text — review and edit, then send.
  • Mic button: the microphone icon at the bottom-left of the chat input shows these instructions.
  • If dictation does not start (macOS): check that System Settings > Keyboard > Dictation is turned on (the first time, macOS shows an enable-confirmation dialog). If pressing Fn (🌐) twice does nothing, also check the "Shortcut" setting in the same pane — it may be Off or bound to another key (common when the 🌐 key is used for input-source switching). The menu item Edit > Start Dictation always works regardless of the shortcut setting. The recognition language is set in the same pane.
  • If dictation does not start (Windows): check Settings > Time & language > Speech that voice typing is available, and Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone that apps may use the microphone (the first time, Windows asks for permission). The recognition language follows your Windows language settings.
  • Nothing is sent automatically. Dictated text only fills the input box — you always review and send it yourself.

monthlet is free on macOS and Windows.
