HelpWriting notes

Embedding external videos (YouTube / Vimeo)

Describes monthlet 1.0.1.

You can embed YouTube and Vimeo videos in a note. For privacy, a video is shown by default as a link card (no external connection); it switches to a playable embed (which does connect externally) only when you expand it.

How to add:

  • In edit mode, paste a video URL into the note (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=..., https://youtu.be/..., or a Vimeo https://vimeo.com/... link) and it automatically becomes a video embed card.
  • You can also ask Chat: "embed this video <URL>".

Playing:

  • Click the play button (▶) on the card to expand it into the player (an iframe) in place. Expanding loads the player, which connects to YouTube / Vimeo.
  • Click the card title to open the original page in your external browser.

Privacy and limits: nothing is requested from external sites until you expand (thumbnails are not fetched either). Only YouTube and Vimeo are allowed as embeds; URLs from other sites are kept as plain links, not embeds.

monthlet is free on macOS and Windows.
