Note map (see how your notes connect)
Describes monthlet 1.0.1.
The note map shows the links between the notes in your vault as a graph. Each circle is one note, and each line is a link between two notes.
- **It is off by default.** Turn on Settings → General → "Enable the note map" and a note map icon appears at the top of the sidebar.
- To open it, click the note map icon in the sidebar, or press ⌘⇧M (Ctrl+Shift+M on Windows).
- Click a node to open that note.
- Scroll to zoom in and out; the view zooms toward your pointer. Drag an empty area to move the whole map.
- Drag a node to hold it in place while you drag. Release it to let it settle back automatically.
- "Fit to screen" at the top returns to a zoom level where every note is visible.
- A node takes the colour of the note's first tag (grey when the tag has no colour set). Spreadsheet documents are drawn as squares instead of circles.
- Notes with more connections are drawn larger.
- Switch between "All" and "Nearby" at the top. "Nearby" draws only what connects to the open note within depth 1–3 (2 by default). Double-click a node to move there.
- Click a tag in the legend to narrow down to that tag (several allowed; click again to remove). Turn off "Show unlinked notes" to hide anything with no connections.
- Rest the pointer on a node for a moment to preview it.
- The map re-reads your vault each time you open it. With many notes, the first drawing can take a few seconds.
- While the map is open, saving, creating, renaming or deleting a note updates the picture right away. Your current position and zoom stay as they are.
