HelpWriting notes
Build an index / table-of-contents note (links to notes & files under a folder)
Describes monthlet 1.0.1.
Ask chat to build an "index" (table-of-contents) note that lists links to the notes and files inside a specific folder. Example: "Make an index note of the notes and files in the X folder".
- Scope: you can limit it to "everything under folder X". You can include only the notes, only the attached files (materials), or both (e.g. "Make a list of just the attachments in the Y folder"). You can also choose whether to include sub-folders or only the top level.
- Where to put it: so the links reliably open, it is best to create the index note at the top of the Vault (the root). You can place the index inside the folder too, but then some links may not be formed correctly, so check that the links open after it is created.
- Reuse: if you build these often, save it as a Skill (/ command) so you can recreate the same index any time from the "/" menu (see the "Skills" section).
- Broken links: if you move, rename, or delete the original notes after building the index, links inside it can break. Recreate the index or re-point the links in that case.
Counting works too: questions like "how many notes are in this folder?" or "how many materials does this folder have?" are answered with notes (.html) and attached files counted separately.
