HelpVaults and the app

Following changes from outside the app (cloud sync, other apps)

Describes monthlet 1.0.1.

When notes in the vault folder are changed outside monthlet (cloud storage sync, another app, file operations in Finder / File Explorer), the folder tree and open notes reload automatically when the window regains focus.

  • If the same note was changed both in the app and outside, a confirmation dialog appears on save. "Overwrite" saves this tab's content (discarding the external changes); "Load changes" reloads the external changes (discarding the latest edit in this tab). The default is "Load changes". Either way, the discarded side is kept in the note's version history and can be restored later.
  • When syncing the vault with cloud storage (e.g. iCloud Drive) to use it from multiple computers: keep the vault folder always downloaded (if the cloud service evicts local copies to save space, notes can be slow to open or unavailable offline). Never layer multiple sync services on the same vault. Avoid editing the same note before changes from another device have synced (only one side's edits may survive).
  • Notes that have not been downloaded yet appear in the sidebar with a cloud icon (their titles come from the file name). Opening one downloads it and it becomes a normal note. If a folder cannot be read, that folder shows a ⚠ and the reason. Right after opening a large vault, all notes may briefly show this way until loading finishes (they return to normal within seconds).

monthlet is free on macOS and Windows.
